Hello, and thank you for coming! I'm very happy to meet you.
Let me tell you a little about myself and my motivation for this class.
My name is Kevin Kim Neidlinger (케빈 김 나이들링거)—just Kevin Kim (케빈 김) to people in Korea—and as you might already have guessed, I was born to a Korean mother and a Caucasian-American father. I learned a little Korean at home, more Korean in college, and even more Korean during an intensive Korean course at Korea University in 2002. I have two little brothers. David lives and works in New Mexico; Sean lives and works in the Chicago area.
I have lived mostly in Seoul except for one year spent in the town of Hayang-eup, next to the city of Daegu. At the time, I was teaching at Daegu Catholic University (2013–2014). I moved back to Seoul in 2014, taught a year at Dongguk University, then worked for almost ten years at DYB Choisun Language Institute as a content creator (EFL textbooks), proofreader, editor, and occasional illustrator.
I have spent about 23 years in Korea:
1994–1996: my hagweon years, some corporate work (about 3 years)
2002–2005: Korean intensive course and more hagweon work (about 4 years)
2005–2008: Sookmyung Women's University, EFL instructor (about 3-4 years)
2013–2014: Daegu Catholic University, EFL professor (about 1 year)
2014–2015: Dongguk University, EFL professor (about 1 year)
2015–2024: DYB Choisun Language Institute (about 9 years)
2024–present: EFL freelancer and content creator (about 1.5 years)
In 2017, I became inspired by a talented Canadian biker/videographer whom I saw on YouTube. He documented his bike trip along the Four Rivers path, going from Seoul to Busan. (The official path is 633 km from Incheon to Busan.) His documentary was beautiful, and because I had lived in big cities for my entire time in Korea, I realized how much of the country I had not seen. So I determined that I would walk the same path that the videographer had biked, but I would walk the
entire way from Incheon to Busan. That experience was documented on
my first trans-Korea blog. My life changed completely, and I became a distance-walking addict.
Since then, I have done long walks across Korea almost every year except for 2018 and this year (this year's walk ended in failure for multiple reasons). See my blog's sidebar for links to those walk blogs. In 2021, I suffered a minor stroke, and in 2024, I had a heart attack, but these conditions have not stopped me from wanting to walk.
Since I have been an English teacher for years, and since I love walking so much, and since my health is always an issue, I decided to combine my love of walking and my love of teaching to create this small, modest business. I call it Kilometers of English because I can put a number in front of the first word of the title and make "10 Kilometers of English" or "33 Kilometers of English—whatever I want. This is a new kind of English class, and it's not meant to be stressful at all.
So thank you for joining me on these walks! I hope we have a chance to get to know each other, and I hope you will both spread the word and come back often! By joining this class, you are not only helping me to earn supplementary income: You are also helping to keep me alive and healthy, and I want to give something back to both you and this lovely country.
(Look on my blog's sidebar for links to all of my previous long walks across Korea.)

이름하여 Kilometers of English입니다. 제목 앞에 숫자를 붙여 “10 Kilometers of English”, “33 Kilometers of English”처럼 자유롭게 만들 수 있더라고요.
